My CrossFit journey began in December 2010. I had never heard about CrossFit before until a member of CrossFit X recommended I give it a try. At the time, I had big goals and dreams of being in law enforcement, but 265 lbs on my 5'0" frame had other ideas. I was so unhealthy that I wore braces on both knees just to walk, and avoided physical activity at all cost (elevator anyone?). I was on three different medications to control depression, anxiety, and panic attacks that would be triggered in social settings. I avoided going out in public for fear that I would run into someone I knew. I suffered from a very poor self-image that hindered my ability to enjoy the important things in life and be a positive role model for my growing daughter. All of this changed after walking through the doors of CrossFit X and beginning a journey that is now over 4 years strong. I had finally decided that the pain of staying the same was greater than the fear of the unknown.
My poor physical state limited every aspect of learning the standard movements of CrossFit, but my coaches never lacked the patience and encouragement I needed to find a way to work around my weaknesses. I learned that each day I would be faced with a choice: Trust my coaches, do what they say and GROW...or give into the fear inside and give up on myself once again. This was a choice I had to make day after day, and even 4 years later I still make that choice when I walk in. My coaches and fellow athletes have become like family, and their encouragement is what helped me finally conquer my fears when it came to a 12-inch box jump, a unassisted pull up, running a 5K without stopping, deadlifting almost twice my bodyweight, and much more.
There is no other option for me to stay healthy physically, mentally and emotionally, than CrossFit. It feeds my need to challenge myself, and it also keeps me humble and thankful.
Four years and 1 month later, I now weigh 135 lbs, and will never again see those 130 lbs I have lost. They represent days of hard work, some tears, and more smiles than one can ever imagine. The coaches and athletes at CrossFit X have truly changed my life and they have been a part of my journey to helping me find who I am truly meant to be. Never give up on yourself, because YOU are worth it!
Meet the Bellingham Blazers Hockey Team
I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to Travis HoGlin and CrossFit X for all his hard work and dedication in helping the Blazers players. From the beginning of the Bellingham Blazers hockey season Travis has been working with our players developing strong bodies and strong minds. Our teams physical training program is structured around explosive movements and strength for hockey specific training. Travis has been instrumental in the growth of our players off the ice to increase their efficiency on the ice.
We train to create mentally strong hockey players and individuals on and off the ice, and along with Travis and CrossFit X we have had another successful season. The Blazers are back to back Cascade Cup Champions as well as Tier 3 National Tournament representatives in our first two seasons. An incredible accomplishment!
CrossFit X has helped our players achieve their goals and we look forward to our continued growth with Travis and the team.
